I updated my LinkedIn background photo to better express my professional brand

I use LinkedIn every day to grow my consulting business. I give job seekers advice on their LinkedIn profiles.

It is time to look at my own LinkedIn profile with a critical eye to ensure my LinkedIn profile supports my professional brand. Recently I addressed my LinkedIn background photo.

The LinkedIn background photo is a wonderful place to put your professional brand stamp on your LinkedIn profile. I have used the same background since 2014 when I published my 3 books. I had the same background photo for my Company page. Here is what my LinkedIn background photo looked like for 6 years.

It supported my professional brand, was consistent with my LinkedIn Company page, included my logo and used my colors. It was ok. But could it be better?

I liked that consistency between the two LinkedIn pages. But it is time for an update.

I selected a new picture for my personal LinkedIn page that incorporates The Interview Doctor logo but has a simple picture of a bridge.

It is personal. I took this photograph from my boat while traveling south from Sturgeon Bay in 2018. I think the photograph is beautiful with that magic touch that happens sometimes, usually outside this photographer’s control. When I look at the picture I am reminded of the smell of water, the wind in my hair, and the excitement of the upcoming adventure.

It is symbolic. This picture reflecting how I guide clients in transition from the past to a new future. On the other side of the bridge can be a new adventure.

It reflects my values. This photo is simple and calming with touches of blue reflecting that blue color I love so much. I want to give the impression that I am calm, competent and courageous, values I can share with my clients.

It ties me to The Interview Doctor and my LinkedIn Company page. I included my logo and a tag line I use frequently, reflecting important branding.

We are still working on a new LinkedIn background photo for The Interview Doctor company page. In the meantime, I am interested in your feedback about this change.
