Ensure that your profile gets seen!
When I think of Artificial Intelligence (AI), I think of robots on assembly lines or the algorithms that allow Amazon to recommend products they think I might like, based on my previous searches. But artificial intelligence is more than a robot! AI is infiltrating every aspect of job search these days. Every part of the job search process is being automated with software that anticipates, learns, and sorts, freeing the recruiter to focus on fit.
The technology learns what the company defines as “good” in any given position based on characteristics the recruiter enters and a study of past successful candidates. Then the AI technology scans social media networks and job boards to find candidates that fit the description of “good” it developed.
The software ranks the candidates and sometimes conducts interviews, then forwards the few that fit the criteria to the human recruiter for interviews and discussions. Sometimes this entire process happens before an official job is even posted. The AI software seeks out candidates so the recruiter can screen and interview to build a pipeline for future opportunities.
Notice that all this happens behind your back, whether you know it or not, whether you like it or not! Although none of this situation is a substitute for networking, still the best way to find a job, why ignore this reality?
No one talks to the candidates. All this effort takes place with the candidate’s social profiles and perhaps a resume. If you do not have a profile or have a profile that does not match your ideal job, you are NOT IN THE GAME!
How well do you represent yourself? Does your profile demonstrate that you are the perfect candidate for the job you want? If not, the AI will not find you and you will not be considered, whether you are the best candidate or not.
Whether you are a current job seeker or have an ambitious career plan, you have a choice: Be invisible or be recognized through your social footprint as the perfect candidate for the job you want.
Consider your entire social footprint. Start with a critical review of your LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn is a major place where you can place your stamp on your public profile.
Consider these elements immediately:
- Keywords. Do you have enough of the right words so you can be found?
- Personal Brand. What impression do you leave with your words, pictures, and content?
- Accomplishments that Support Your Career Goal. Does your profile demonstrate that you can solve a problem or add value to an organization?
