1. unhappy in your job, and want to make a change, or
2. know you need work experience linked to your major, and don’t know yet how to find it, or
3. are between gigs, and are looking for a job during the holidays – never pleasant.
So how can we make this new year happy for you?
Are New Year’s resolutions really just empty promises to ourselves? I heard an estimate that 80 Million resolutions will be made as we start the New Year, and 60 Million of them will have been broken in two weeks! Wow! Not exactly great odds!
So why resolve to do anything differently? Well that’s a good question, you are likely wasting your breath and your time . . . unless you plan to put it in writing.
If you are prepared to put it in writing, you give yourself a much better chance to succeed AND you give yourself something to look at every day – ‘how am I doing today?’ that keeps you moving toward achieving that resolution or goal.
So let’s assume you want a new job. Have you put a personal marketing plan in writing yet? If you have not, do it this week.
If you already have a personal marketing plan, how can you resolve to improve it? What are you doing correctly in your search? What have been your stumbling blocks so far? Have you asked for feedback from past interviewers lately? Have you kept your fan club in the loop on your search? Are you tracking the number of appointments set?
All good questions to ask yourself, to improve that plan, as you start the new year. Ask yourself the tough questions, then put your resolution in place – put your dream in writing.
Hey, it works, especially if you want a new job, and a happy new year!!! HORN SOUND AT MIDNIGHT!!! Happy New Year!
