Common Job Networking Myths – don’t believe them! | New Grad Life newgradlife.blogspot.com/2010/02/common… via @NewGradLife
Some great thoughts here. These “myths” are four very common reactions to the job-search strategy of Networking:
1. I’m looking to use people to achieve selfish goals.
2. You have to be a born networker, a natural.
3. You have to have above average charisma to be a good networker.
4. You have to be a good talker to be a good networker.
These four “myths” are what people FEEL who have never had to tell their story to people they don’t know.
What’s the solution? Know your passions. What do you most enjoy doing (work-wise) that you do well?
I met a young female hs student yesterday who LOVES masonry ‘because I’m good at it.’ You don’t see that kind of love for masonry in 15-year-olds, male or female, too often. Kind of unique. Kind of special.
If she commits to NETWORKING, her passion can and will overcome these gut-level fears or myths as she talks about her skill and interest with people who will put her in touch with people who can give her a chance to build her skills as a mason.
