They say eye witnesses are the least reliable. It seems odd to think that we can’t trust what we see in front of our eyes. We tend to look at the world from our own perspective. Think about that for a moment.
Consider the interview process. There are two sides to the interview desk – the company side and the candidate side. Each has their own perspective.
Lately The Interview Doctor has had the chance to talk to both sides of the desk about their perspective on interviewing. The results have been shocking. Although no one is happy, the big horror stories come from candidates: unprepared interviewers, really stupid questions, gang-up interviews with as many as seven or eight company people trying to learn something from one candidate in an hour, three or four candidates facing a bunch of company reps at the same time We have even heard these complaints about search firms.
What exactly can a company learn about a candidate from this mess? How does this approach to talent management bring on board talent to help a company grow?
At the same time, general turnover and first year turnover is up. Shocking. Hard to believe that this interviewing mess does not always lead to bliss and happiness after the hire.
We love to talk to business groups about this situation. As you can imagine we have a unique perspective that comes from seeing the employment process from the candidates perspective. We would love to share our thoughts with your group. Just drop Katherine or Dan a note.
