Food… shelter… a job… education…
“Giving back is among the most important and valuable things an entrepreneur can do. Period.”
Sometimes when we have all these things we take for granted how difficult life can be for other people who don’t. I know here at The Interview Doctor, we spend every waking hour figuring out how to grow our business. We are entrepreneurs. We are constantly marketing, constantly networking and meeting people to reveal the next client. We don’t think about much of anything outside of our clients.
What else is there in life? Turns out… a lot.
When we focus so much attention on ourselves and our quests we can forget that other people are out there having completely different experiences, some not so nice.
Being out of work is bad enough. Many of us have been there. But what if you were out of work without the resources to even dress nice enough to handle an interview? Wow, that is tough. Seems like that problem ought to matter to a company called The Interview Doctor.
Giving back means taking some action and not expecting anything in return. We give back when we do something not because it will help the business grow but just for the sheer joy of making the world a little better place. So we made giving back a central part of our year-long 10 year anniversary celebration!
This week, in conjunction with Stark SHRM in Canton, OH Dan and Katherine worked with the Workforce Readiness Committee to hold a clothing drive!
We collected a mini-van full of suits, dress pants, jackets, dress shirts, shoes, and some gorgeous silk ties and jewelry as our contribution to Stark Social Workers Network Clothing Closet. They will distribute the clothing to people preparing for interviews.
A bunch of good things came out of this service project:
- Folks transitioning into the work force will get new interview outfits. They will look Mahvelous!
- Folks who have a lot got to clean out their closets knowing clothes that no longer fit them might fit a job seeker very well.
- Local employers will have access to new talent they might never have seen without being able to dress for the part.
- Dan and Katherine pulled their heads out of their hidey holes to appreciate the kind works of colleagues giving other people a hand. Just for the sheer joy of making the world a little better!
We want to thank our friends at Stark SHRM for their generosity and community focus. It warms our hearts to mingle with such fine people. It feels so good we might do it again later in the year!
