We here at The Interview Doctor think we have a pretty unique way of teaching people how to interview better. Sometimes we get kind of cocky about it.
Someone challenged us to prove it. Put some statistics behind our claims. So we did!
The results were startling. Students who participated in The Interview Doctor resume and interview workshops converted 74% of interviews into job offers! They got a job 42 days earlier than students who did not get coaching!
We surveyed clients and non-clients so we could see if our intervention made a difference. We surveyed undergraduate and graduate students in the East Carolina University class of 2011 and the students graduating from the classes of 2008, 2009, and 2010 that did not work with The Interview Doctor.
We measured three major elements:
- How many interviews did you have
- Date you received first offer
- Number of offers you received
From this information, we were able to measure how long it took to get the first offer. We created a new measure, “Interview Effectiveness”: what is the likelihood that an interview turns into a job offer. This is the number of offers divided by the number of interviews.
Graduating teachers are a perfect group to study for our purposes. They all graduate on the same day each year in May. The target teaching jobs begin in late August so the offers for regular staff positions are usually made in the summer. The first wave of offers comes in June. The second wave of offers comes in August, after the principal sees what vacancies are left. The last wave of offers is to fill temporary positions. These offers usually come after school starts.
The ECU Science Education Department thinks being able to prove they have a great placement rate really improve the program prestige. So they enjoy having The Interview Doctor work with their students. They make time in their busy program because they believe it will help.
We can and do measure the time it takes regular business clients to get an offer after we begin working with them. But usually regular business clients accept the first offer and do not always receive multiple offers like teachers. So the East Carolina University Science Ed Department represented a unique opportunity to measure interview effectiveness. Was it possible that interview preparation leads to multiple offers?
The results showed that students who participated in the workshops received their first job offer 41 days earlier than students in the previous classes.
Students working with The Interview Doctor were 74% likely to convert an interview into a job offer!
The students felt more confident. The principals and district superintendents reported the students were confident and stood out from the other students interviewed in other departments and other schools.
The moral of the story: Invest in interview skills training prior to an interview. It improves the chances each interview results in a job offer!
A little commercial: Why invest so much in your college education if you can’t find a job? Improve the odds that an interview turns into a job offer by working with The Interview Doctor.
